Held in association with Peterlee Pumas and the RFL, a 13 aside Match Officials Course was held at the club last week, which culminated in eight newly qualified match officials. “The newly qualified officials will have an opportunity to officiate over the coming weeks and put the skills and knowledge which they have acquired into practise” said Peter Wharton the RFL`s Match Official Development Officer for the region.  4 Pumas completed the course, John Steel, Danny Wilson, Sean Specer and Kieran Taylor.

Well done yesterday everyone, guaranteed a place in the final and doing as the league winners regardless of what happens over the next two weeks.  Well done to martin the coach, thameem and dena the physios, mick for doing the porgrams, raffles and match reports and of course all the players for putting the work in and especially those that are sticking at it and not getting the game time they woudl like, your times will come.  Felt like we had to score to tries to get one awarded yesterday, there were quite a few scores there that look certainties only to be deemed no try for mysterious reasons but the chances were created and executed and although the score line looks like an improvement, there were a few goals missed yesterday which would have made our 5 or 6 try haul look a lot better and the 4 that werent given makes it a totally different picture.  Full match report to follow, pics are uploading onto the site.  Sunderland at home next week.

Match Report

The Peterlee Pumas secured there position in the top spot of the national conference north east league, maintained there unbeaten record and booked a place in the grand final as they posted a win against Newcastle Storm with  workman like display at Helford Road, Peterlee on Saturday 24^th July.

Peterlee forced an error from the kick off and got possession deep in the visitor’s half. A second set was forced from a Newcastle knock on and loose forward Stephen Stockdale scored for Peterlee on the left.  Paul Moss couldn’t convert from the difficult angle. The Pumas received another penalty shortly afterwards for Storm holding down in the tackle and winger James Daniels went in on the left to score from the tap.  Moss hit the cross bar with the conversion kick.  A shift wide right on half way put full back Scott Jordan away on the right who beat three defenders to score.  Peterlee defended their line well and broke out from their own half as Paul Moss at centre was held up over the line but the next ball was shifted left and second row Adam Howard scored.  Newcastle hit    back through Gavin Houston who scooted from dummy half on the back of a penalty that gave them good field position. His brother Adam kicked the conversion.  Peterlee forced another error from the kick off but squandered an excellent chance to score by giving a crossing penalty away.  A string of errors piggy backed Storm down the field and Gavin Houston got his second with Adam scoring the extras.  Pumas Moss was adjudged to have knocked the ball over the line next but Peterlee turned over Newcastle on their own 20 meter line and Adam Howard crossed over with Moss closing the half with the conversion making the half time score 22-12.

It took a long time to come in the second half but Adam Howard drove forward to the try line for the Pumas but had the ball knocked out of his hand. Centre James Clark instantly picked it up and dove over. Scott Jordan had a try disallowed controversially under the posts in the last action of the game.  Full time score Peterlee Pumas 28 Newcastle Storm 12.

Next up for Peterlee is another home game to Sunderland on the 31^st July with a 2:30pm kick off.
